“After a comprehensive and independent review of the entire Heritage organization, the Board determined there were significant and worsening management issues that led to a breakdown of internal communications and cooperation. While the organization has seen many successes, Jim DeMint and a handful of his closest advisers failed to resolve these problems, ” Heritage Board of Trustees Chair Thomas A. Saunders III said in a statement. “This was a difficult and necessary decision for the Board to take. DeMint was a conservative senator elected in 2004 and was a founding member of the Senate Tea Party Caucus. He left the senate in 2012 to lead the conservative think tank. Internal drama over the past two weeks, first reported by Politico, helped to push DeMint out.
Heritage founder Ed Feulner will replace DeMint as president and CEO while the organization looks for a replacement.
