Go-karts, Japanese food and a combination bookstore and craft-beer outlet are the latest tenants announced for Warren Buffett’s massive Grandscape development in The Colony.
Set to open in 2019 is Andretti Indoor Karting and Games, a 110,000-square-foot, two-story indoor amusement center that will be making its Texas debut. The center will feature « superkarts » that travel up to 35 mph, along with more than 120 arcade games, an indoor ropes course, professional racing simulators with virtual-reality technology, a two-level laser tag arena, bowling and a « Dark Ride » motion theater.
The complex also will include the Andretti Grill, with a made-from-scratch-menu that will include slow-smoked ribs grilled in a Big Green Egg, an outdoor cooker, and pizza cooked in brick ovens.
Noted Korean-born chef Akira Back is set to open his first restaurant of the same name in the U. S. in Grandscape in 2018.
Located in The Boardwalk section of the 433-acre development, Akira Back will feature Japanese cuisine prepared with a Korean accent, with seasonal produce and sake, including Akira Back’s own brand. The chef already has locations in Jakarta, New Delhi and Singapore, and is planning future locations in Seoul, Dubai and Bangkok.
Another international transplant — Windmills Craftworks — combines craft beer, food, music and books.
The first location opened in September 2012 in Bangalore, India.
Offering a « robust and eclectic live music programming and thousands of … books,  » the developer said, the Grandscape location is expected to open in 2018.
Grandscape’s strategy has been to « patiently [search] the globe for the most authentic user experiences,  » Steve Graham of Stellar Development said in a statement. « Grandscape is bringing together an unmatched collection of brands. »
