Kathy Griffin has sparked outrage for posing with a decapitated Trump head in a series of photos by Tyler Shields. See video from the « beheading Trump » photo shoot here.
Comedian Kathy Griffin has sparked outrage after posing for a series of photos showing her holding a bloodied President Donald Trump mask, making it appear like he had been beheaded.
The photos were taken by Florida-based photographer Tyler Shields, who posted video from the photo shoot, which you can watch above. The video shows Griffin slowly raising the blooded mask up into the air.
Shields also posted behind the scenes footage, which you can watch below:
In the video, Griffin holds up her red-stained hand.
“This is fake blood, just so you know, ” Griffin says in the video. “I won’ t give away what we are doing, but Tyler and I are not afraid to do images that make noise.”
The video also shows Griffin and Shields looking at the images he took, smiling and high-fiving.
“We have to move to Mexico today, because we’ re going to go to prison, federal prison, ” Griffin jokes. “Call your dad, apologize, and let’s you, me and Daryl go to Mexico today. Because we’ re not surviving this. Ok?”
Shields then points to one of the images and tells Griffin, “that moment right there, that’s the jail moment.”
Griffin responded to some of the anger directed toward her on Twitter, including calls for her to face criminal charges for threatening Trump.
The Secret Service and FBI have not commented about whether they are investigating Griffin, but the Secret Service did tweet about how it responds to threats in an apparent reference to the photos:
Trump and the White House have not commented about the photos. But Trump did tweet about Snoop Dogg in March after the rapper “ shot” a clown version of the president in a music video.
Donald Trump Jr. was among those to lash out at Griffin, tweeting, “Disgusting but not surprising. This is the left today. They consider this acceptable. Imagine a conservative did this to Obama as POTUS?”
Griffin also spoke to journalist Yashar Al i, telling him, “unapologetically” that the images are “an expression of art.” Ali tweeted, “She believes Trump is doing tremendous damage to the country + the world and she wanted the art to reflect the seriousness of his impact.… She said they were putting together a Trump mask and that led her to think of Trump’s infamous statement early on in the primary. The ‘blood coming out of her eyes, blood coming out of her ears, blood coming out of her wherever’ statement. She also said she does not condone any violence, that provocative art should remain just that: art. She does not want life to imitate art.”
Shields told Fox News, “Kathy and I are friends and we worked together before, so when we started doing this shoot, she said, ‘I’ d love to do something political. I’ d love to make a statement.’ We kind of figured out what would be the best image to make out of that.”
The photographer said their goal was to make people uncomfortable, telling Fox News:
