An influx of Boston terriers and Tibetan Spaniels have arrived at the Santa Cruz County Animal Shelter after being rescued from a private residence in the Santa Cruz Mountains.
Authorities confiscated the 34 dogs on Thursday from a Scotts Valley home after a concerned citizen contacted the shelter. Officers had received previous complaints of dogs being bred at the same address.
Shelter officials said in a press release that the dogs were being kept « in deplorable and inhumane conditions. »
« The dogs did not have food. The dogs did not have water. Some were living in excrement, some in urine,  » Animal Services Officer Todd Stosuy told ABC.
Animal shelter officials are investigating the Scotts Valley residence in conjunction with local police.
