Sen. Dianne Feinstein urged the Senate Judiciary Committee Friday to « investigate all issues that raise a question of obstruction of justice » regarding President Donald Trump and the Russia probe and subpoena witnesses if necessary.
« It is my strong recommendation that the Judiciary Committee investigate all issues that raise a question of obstruction of justice, » the California Democrat said in a letter to the panel’s chairman, Republican Sen. Chuck Grassley of Iowa.
« These issues should be developed by our legal staff, presented to us, and be subject to full committee hearings, » she said.
Feinstein, 83, who was first elected to the Senate in 1991, is also the ranking Democrat on the Senate Intelligence Committee, which heard former FBI Director James Comey’s testimony on Thursday.
She also urged the Judiciary Committee to use its subpoena power « in those cases where we do not receive cooperation. »
Feinstein referenced testimony Wednesday before the Intelligence Committee by DNI Director Dan Coats and NSA Director Mike Rogers.
They repeatedly refused to say whether Trump asked them to influence or play down the Russia probe.
« I am also concerned by the refusal of DNI Director Coats and NSA Director Admiral Rogers to answer questions posed by senators, » she said.
