Authorities released videos of serial killer Todd Kohlhepp and police rescuing Kala Brown from a metal container. The Kala Brown video is very graphic.
An extremely disturbing video shows the moment that Kala Brown was freed by authorities from the metal container where South Carolina serial killer Todd Kohlhepp was keeping her prisoner.
Authorities also released videos of Kohlhepp talking about his many crimes as part of an open records request response,
You can watch the videos below, but be aware that the Brown release video is obviously a very troubling video. At one point in the video footage, Brown tells her police rescuers, “My neck’s attached to the wall, ” to which an officer responds, “We’ re getting bolt cutters, honey.”
The video opens with authorities prying open the metal container. Multiple officers then walk into the darkened container, which is located in a wooded area. They walk past a metal chair and stacks of bottled water and into the horrors inside.
In one shocking scene, you see Kala sitting on the floor with her hands above her head and her head chained to the wall. The container is crammed with objects, including several novels, which the camera pans over.
The officers ask Kala “Where’s your buddy?” They mean Charles David Carver, her boyfriend and one of Kohlhepp’s victims. Brown reveals that Kohlhepp murdered Carver by shooting him three times in the chest and wrapping his body in a tarp and says of Carver, “I never seen him again.”
Specifically, she says, “He shot him. Todd Kohlhepp shot Charlie Carver three times in the chest, wrapped him in a blue tarp, put him in the bucket of the tractor, locked me down here and I’ ve never seen him again. He says he’s dead and buried, he says there’s several bodies dead and buried out here and he says the dogs won’ t find them if they go looking because of the red pepper.”
“Are you OK? Do you have any weapons? What’s your name?” deputies call out as they carefully navigate the darkness.
Kala Brown has spoken openly about the ordeal, even appearing on Dr. Phil. However, the document release provides a real-time accounting of the case.
According to the Independent Mail, Kohlhepp, of South Carolina, pleaded guilty to killing seven people and for kidnapping Brown.
Authorities also released confession videos of Kohlhepp talking to investigators:
In addition to killing Carver and kidnapping Brown, Kohlhepp, a real estate agent, pleaded guilty to murdering four people “at Superbike Motorsports in Chesnee in 2003, and killing Spartanburg couple Johnny and Meghan Coxie, ” reported Go UpState, which has published a link to a gallery of crime scene photos released in conjunction with the disturbing case. You can see those here.
Brown told investigators she met Kohlhepp through a previous relationship and stayed in touch with him on Facebook; he pretended to go into the metal container to get bolt cutters but shot Carver when he emerged from it, reported GoUpState.com.
