James Harden agrees to extension worth $228 million, NBA’s richest

Rockets extend star guard after highlight season that led to runner-up for NBA MVP.
James Harden and the Houston Rockets reached a deal on a four-year extension that pushes Harden’s salary to $228 million through the 2022-23 season, a person familiar with the deal told USA TODAY Sports.
The person requested anonymity because he was not authorized to speak publicly about the terms of the deal.
ESPN first reported details of the contract, which is most lucrative contract in the NBA.
As the deal is structured right now, Harden is expected to make $46.8 million in 2022-23.
Harden signed the deal, according to the Rockets.

Harden, an All-NBA performer in 2016-17 and runner-up to Oklahoma City Thunder star Russell Westbrook for MVP, averaged 29.1 points, 11.2 assists and 8.1 rebounds and shot 44% from the field and 34.7% on three-pointers last season.
