The Pokémon Go Fest was supposed to be a time of celebration but instead turned to utter disappointment when technical problems caused the game to malfunction. Now, some attendees are suing.
In order to celebrate the one year anniversary of Pokémon GO, the developer behind the title, Niantic, decided to host a real-world event that would offer unique rewards, experiences, and more. But, the event wasn’t a success and was instead plagued with various technical issues that resulted in many attendees not being able to even play the game. The firm later issued an apology and offered some compensation to make up for the bad experience.
At the time, the company said:
Unfortunately, the compensation doesn’t seem to be enough for some, as a group of event attendees are now filing a lawsuit against Niantic, looking to be reimbursed for their travel expenses. Although some attendees might have been local to the event, others might have traveled much greater distances – including from overseas – making this an extremely costly event. A spokesperson for Niantic declined to comment.
