In December, the Rift VR headset with two Touch controllers was priced at almost $800. Following a price cut to $599 in March, its price will permanently fall to $499, after the latest $399 deal ends.
In December, Oculus introduced its Touch controllers for the Rift virtual reality headset, priced at $199. Added to the $599 cost of the Rift itself, new buyers were faced with a sizeable price tag of almost 800 bucks. So it came as quite a relief four months later when the company slashed the cost of the Rift and Touch controllers by 25%, selling them as a $599 bundle.
This week, Oculus slashed the cost of the Rift + Touch bundle by another third, reducing it $399, although that’s only a temporary discount. But when that offer ends in a few weeks’ time, Oculus will introduce another permanent price cut on the bundle, setting its price at $499.
The Rift + Touch bundle includes the headset itself, two touch controllers, two sensors, and six free VR games and experiences to get you started.
Meanwhile, Oculus is rumored to be working on a new standalone wireless VR headset. The new device, which could be priced as low as $200, won’t need a PC or phone to make it work, and is expected to launch next year.
