President Donald Trump bragged Tuesday he could be « more presidential » than any other president in U. S. history – other than Abraham Lincoln.
« Sometimes they say ‘he doesn’t’ act presidential,  » he said. « And I say, ‘look, great schools, smart guy, it is so easy to act presidential.’ But that’s not going to get it done. In fact, I said – it is much easier, by the way, to act presidential than what we are doing here tonight, believe me. »
» [W] ith the exception of the late great Abraham Lincoln, I can be more presidential than any president that has ever held this office, that I can tell you,  » he proclaimed.
A clip of the remarks was posted by Mediaite.
According to Trump, acting presidential is « really easy,  » but « we have to move a little faster than that. »
« We will never be beholden to the lobbyists or the special interests,  » he continued.
« We will never be silenced by the media. I want to protect America, and I want to protect the citizens of America. Your hopes are my hopes. Your dreams are my dreams. I have a great, successful career. I have built a great, great business. This is the only thing that matters. This is the only thing that matters. There is nothing. Your future is what I’m fighting for each and every day. »
Trump also chided the media for not being able to tell the difference between a joke and a statement of fact, noting « every president on Mount Rushmore believed in protecting American industry,  » The Hill reported.
« Now here’s what I do. I’d ask whether or not you someday think I will be on Mount Rushmore,  » Trump said. « But here’s the problem, if I did it joking, totally joking, having fun, the fake news media will say ‘he believes he should be on Mount Rushmore.’
« So, I won’t say it. Okay? I won’t say it. »
« . .. They’ll say it anyway, you watch: ‘Trump thinks he should be on Mount Rushmore. Isn’t that terrible?' »
