Free Twitter, WhatsApp, Facebook Messenger…
Using Twitter on your phone will no longer burn through data allowances on selected Virgin Mobile plans.
Along with WhatsApp and Facebook Messenger data – which Virgin also bunged in for free back in November – Twitter DMs, along with all and any Twitter-related use is now free on selected 4G plans.
This is great news for people on tightly capped plans. Despite Twitter itself working to streamline things with Twitter Lite, if you’ re on something like 300MB a month – the standard allowance of Virgin’s cheapest SIM only deal – it’ ll only take a handful of lit AF Jeremy Corbyn memes before your allowance resembles an east coast Virgin train carriage.
Virgin Media’s managing director Jeff Dodds added that any data saved can be rolled over to the next month: “That’s why we’ ve expanded our data-free social offering to include Twitter which, when combined with fast 4G and data rollover, is transforming the future of social messaging on mobile and ensuring our customers never have to worry about keeping connected to the things and people they love.”
Virgin Mobile uses EE’s network to serve customers and launched 4G plans last September. Despite benefiting from the reach of the UK’s biggest 4G network, Virgin customers will have to wait before they can feel the benefits of speed boosts and carrier aggregation.
