State Sen. Maria Chappelle-Nadal of Missouri is in hot water after a comment posted on her private Facebook page calling for Donald Trump’s assassination went public.
She issued an apology to the St. Louis Post-Dispatch in which she claimed she posted the comment, which read « I hope Trump is assassinated!, » out of frustration.
« I didn’t mean what I put up. Absolutely not. I was very frustrated, » she told the publication. « Things have got to change. »
Paris Hilton is really, really sorry for her Trump comments
She told the Post-Dispatch she was specifically upset about Trump’s response to the Charlottesville, Va., rally that drew white supremacists and neo-Nazis in protest.
Whether she meant it or not, Chappelle-Nadal is now the subject of an investigation being conducted by the Secret Service, a secondary report from the Post-Dispatch suggests.
The U. S. Secret Service’s St. Louis field office confirmed to the outlet that they were « looking into this. »
Speaking hypothetically, special agent Kristina Schmidt told the outlet that such investigations aim to « determine intent, to determine if there was a violation of federal law. If there is, then we refer it to the U. S. Attorney. »

Chappelle-Nadal has deleted the comment, which was made in response to a conversation with another user.
The man, later identified as Chappelle-Nadal’s cousin, wrote, « now I’ll probably get a visit from the secret service smdh. »
The Sen. replied, « No. I will. I hope Trump is assassinated! »
