Texas Rangers, Houston Astros series in jeopardy due to flooding from Hurricane Harvey

The Texans Rangers announced their contingency plan Sunday because of the catastrophic flooding due to Tropical Storm Harvey in the Houston area.

The Rangers will fly back to Dallas on Sunday evening following the afternoon game in Oakland against the Athletics. The club will remain at home awaiting further information and updates on the status of this week’s scheduled series at Minute Maid Park in Houston.
The Astros played their series finale on the road Sunday afternoon against the Los Angeles Angels. The Astros plan to fly to Dallas from Orange County on Sunday night, but the rest of their schedule is still undetermined.
« Everything is up in the air,  » Astros manager A. J. Hinch said before Sunday’s game.
The Rangers and Astros are currently scheduled to play on Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday nights. Both teams have a scheduled off day on Monday.
Tropical Storm Harvey hovered over Houston early Sunday and dumped 20 to 30 inches of rain, killing at least five people and prompting evacuations of apartment complexes and dramatic rescues, according to the National Weather Service.
Rescue workers in Houston renewed search efforts Sunday morning for residents trapped in their homes by rising floodwaters. More than 1,000 people were rescued overnight from record flooding in the area.
« Obviously the primary concern at this time is the welfare and safely of the residents of the Houston area and South Texas who are dealing with a catastrophic weather situation,  » Rangers president of baseball operations and general manager Jon Daniels said in a statement. « The thoughts of our entire organization are with those individuals to be safe.
« We have been in continuous contact with the Astros and Major League Baseball regarding travel tonight and the status of this week’s series. We will continue to talk throughout the day to get updates on the situation. »
