Dara Khosrowshahi has been picked as the new CEO of the ride-hailing company, Uber. Khosrowshahi will have a big job on his hands following countless scandals that have plagued the business.
Uber’s board of directors has voted on who should be the embattled company’s new CEO, they want Expedia’s, Dara Khosrowshahi. He is the third candidate for the job after Hewlett Packard Enterprise’s CEO Meg Whitman and former General Electric CEO Jeff Immelt. Two people familiar with the situation have confirmed Uber’s decision with the company planning to announce their choice to employees first.
Uber and its board are yet to release a statement regarding the appointment of the new CEO who will replace Travis Kalanick who was pressured to step down in June following scandals including an intellectual property dispute, an investigation into working conditions, and sexual harassment accusations. Kalanick remains on Uber’s board.
According to sources, GE’s Immelt, and Expedia’s Khosrowshahi presented to the board on Friday, while HPE’s Whitman presented on Saturday.
Immelt dropped out of the race on Sunday after believing the process to be dysfunctional. Whitman, on the other hand, hasn’ t been informed of any choice and the board also hasn’ t agreed to her conditions for taking the job; she wanted Kalanick to have less involvement at the company and also wanted more control over the board.
With the CEO position filled by Khosrowshahi, the company is now seeking a chief operating officer, a chief financial officer, and a head of finance.
