ARLINGTON, Texas – Aroldis Chapman has his old job back.
Chapman, who had been demoted from the closer’s role on Aug. 19, recorded the save in the Yankees’ 3-1 come-from-behind victory over the Rangers on Saturday at Globe Life Park.
It was Chapman’s first save since Aug. 15. He locked it up with a 1-2-3 ninth in which he struck out two. He is 17-for-21 in save opportunities.
Tyler Austin stroked an RBI single with the bases loaded in the ninth to give the Yankees the lead. And Chase Headley drew an RBI walk for insurance.

Rangers starter Andrew Cashner stifled the Yankees’ bats for most of the day. He threw seven shutout innings before hitting Todd Frazier leading off the eighth and coming out of the game. Matt Holliday followed with a pinch-hit single to put runners on the corners, and Chase Headley delivered a sacrifice fly to tie the game at 1-1.
Luis Severino didn’ t allow his first – and only – hit until No. 9 hitter Brett Nicholas delivered an RBI double to right with two outs in the fifth that put the Rangers up 1-0. Severino’s final line: 7 IP, 1 H, 1 ER, 3 BB, 10 K. His ERA since the All-Star break is 2.07, and 2.96 overall.
Jacoby Ellsbury ran a long way and made a nice diving catch to rob Elvis Andrus of a hit and end the first inning.
Joe Girardi’s decision to pinch-hit Matt Holliday for Greg Bird in the eighth with the Rangers bringing in lefty Alex Claudio. It worked, as Holliday ripped a single to right, allowing the Yankees to put runners on the corners and ultimately tie the game.
