Los Angeles-bound flight makes emergency landing after 'serious' engine damage

One passenger described the engine as « slightly blown apart, » while another said it had seen « better days. »
Serious damage to an engine, described by one passenger as « slightly blown apart, » caused a Los Angeles-bound flight from Paris to make an emergency landing in Canada on Saturday
Flight AF66 from Paris’ Charles de Gaulle Airport sustained « serious damage to one of its four engines, » forcing a landing in Goose Bay airport in Canada’s Newfoundland and Labrador province, Air France said in a statement.
Twitter users aboard the plane documented the engine trouble.
CBC News reported the engine « blew out over the Atlantic Ocean » after leaving Paris on Saturday morning.
Air France said the plane landed safely shortly before noon ET.
« The regularly trained pilots and cabin crew handled this serious incident perfectly, » the airline said in a statement. « The passengers are currently being assisted by teams dispatched to the location. »
The airline said it’s working to get the passengers to Los Angeles.
