(Conservative Tribune) – Over the past few months, North Korea has launched an unprecedented number of missiles, detonated a nuclear weapon and otherwise shown the world just how far along its weapons programs are advancing.
A new report has come out detailing the type of fuel that North Korea uses in its missiles, and it is quite revealing. North Korea is still using a kind of fuel NASA was warning against more than 50 years ago, The New York Times reported.
The fuel, unsymmetrical dimethyl hydrazine — known as UDMH — is very unstable. In fact, it is so dangerous that even the Russians are hesitant to use it. In 1960, dozens of Russians died after a rocket fueled by UDMH exploded prematurely in what The Times called “the worst disaster of the space age.”
NASA has warned of the dangers of UDMH since 1966. The United States uses solid fuel to power its missiles.
North Korea is still many years away from perfecting a solid-fuel rocket, so for now they rely on UDMH.
