ANN ARBOR — Quinn Nordin began his collegiate career booting a pair of 50-plus yard field goals.
Now he’s being rewarded.
The redshirt freshman place kicker was named Big Ten co-special teams player of the week by the conference on Monday, after Saturday’s 33-17 win over Florida.
Nordin was 4 for 6 in field-goal attempts, successfully converting kicks from 55 and 50 yards. He is the first player in Michigan history to kick two 50-yard field goals in a game, the school says.
Nordin began the game 4 for 4 before missing an attempt from 52 and 32 yards, respectively. He also successfully converted all three point-after attempts.
A three-star recruit from Rockford, the 6-foot-1,205-pound Nordin was redshirted last season before emerging as Michigan’s best option at kicker in camp.
Before Saturday, he was best known as the recruit Michigan coach Jim Harbaugh had a sleepover with. Now he’s locked up the job for the foreseeable future.
