NEW YORK — Multiple people have been struck by a vehicle near Pennsylvania Station in New York, the NYPD says.
A spokesman said the incident appears to have been an accident. He said the driver apparently lost control of the vehicle after an issue with the pedals.
One man and two women were injured. Their injuries are not life-threatening, the spokesman said.
The incident took place around 5:30 p.m. on Friday near 32nd Street and Seventh Avenue when a red van jumped a curb, injuring three pedestrians.
The driver told police that the floor mat got stuck on top of the gas pedal, accidentally causing the vehicle to strike the pedestrians, CBS New York reports.
Police are interviewing witnesses in the area as they investigate the cause of the crash, CBS New York reports. One witness told the station that she saw the driver being taken into police custody.
This is a developing story. Check back for updates.
