Plus, a cool Ghost-shaped wi-fi speaker that lights up!
Destiny 2 now has hands-free voice command features thanks to Amazon’s Alexa personal assistant. A new “skill” for Amazon Alexa devices will let players who own an Alexa-compatible device issue voice commands to their Ghost to ask the little guy about Destiny lore, send messages to friends and equip items.
The Destiny 2 Ghost skill for Amazon Alexa devices is available for download now. The skill adds more than 1,000 custom voice lines (voiced by Nolan North), Amazon says, that can be initiated by asking “Alexa, ask Ghost…” or “Alexa, tell Ghost…” According to Amazon, players can ask lore-related questions like “Alexa, ask Ghost who are the Red Legion” or, for recommendations on in-game activities, “Alexa, ask Ghost what I should do next.”
Some of the Alexa Ghost voice commands sound pretty handy. Destiny 2 players will be able to save up to four loadouts for their character based on specific activities (Crucible, Nightfall, Strike and Trials of the Nine), then ask Alexa to equip them while they’re in orbit or in a social space.
From Activision’s support page on Alexa’s Destiny 2 Ghost skill:
Do you have different weapon and armor loadouts you prefer in different Events? Ghost is here to help.
Set up and save a loadout for different Events. Loadouts include your current selections for weapons, armor, and Ghost shell. For example, once your preferred Crucible loadout is set up, just say, “Alexa, tell Ghost to save this as my Crucible loadout.” Then, before jumping into Crucible, say, “Alexa, tell Ghost to switch to my Crucible loadout.”
Here’s a look at that in action.
And if you’re looking for someone to play with, the Alexa Ghost skill has something similarly handy:
If you want to coordinate with clan members to raid or play with, Ghost can help spread the word. Use Ghost to see who’s online or find out about your clan level and rewards. You can also ask Ghost to send a message to clan mates that will be sent to them directly through the Destiny 2 Companion App and Bungie.net.
You can also say « Alexa, tell Ghost to call for backup » if you find yourself in a tough spot, and Ghost will reach out to your clan mates for help.
Examples
Alexa, ask Ghost who in my clan is online.
Alexa, ask Ghost for a clan update.
Ghost will give you some detailed info on clans and social features as seen in this video.
To make the tech feel a bit more authentic, Amazon and Bungie are releasing a limited edition Alexa device-compatible Ghost wi-fi speaker in December. The device needs to be paired with an Alexa device, like an Amazon Echo.
The Alexa Ghost skill and the Destiny 2 Ghost replica speaker are compatible with the PlayStation 4, Windows PC and Xbox One versions of the game. The speaker is available for pre-order now — it costs $89.99 — and ships Dec. 19.
