The president’s daughter and U. S. Sen. Susan Collins will participate in a tax reform forum at Volk Packaging, a business co-owned by Republican state Sen. Amy Volk.
Ivanka Trump is scheduled to participate in a forum on tax reform in Biddeford on Friday, along with U. S. Sen. Susan Collins, the Portland Press Herald has learned.
The White House is expected to announce the visit by President Trump’s daughter later Thursday. The forum will be from 12:15 p.m. to 1:15 p.m. at Volk Packaging, a business owned by state Sen. Amy Volk, R-Scarborough, and her husband, Derek Volk.
A spokeswoman for Collins early Thursday said she could not confirm the appearance. Collins, a Republican, has been a frequent critic of the president, and during the 2016 election, said she wouldn’t be voting for him.
Collins has also opposed the Trump administration’s efforts to repeal and replace the Affordable Care Act and has been among three hold-out Republicans in the Senate on the issue. But she may be more aligned with Trump and the Republican rank-and-file on tax reform and has taken positions similar to Ivanka Trump’s on tax credits for child care and other issues aimed at supporting working women with families.
Amy Volk, who was recently elected assistant majority leader of the Senate in a party caucus, did not immediately returned a calls seeking comment. In a recent Facebook post, Volk said she was attending a National Conference of State Legislatures event for emerging leaders in California.
