The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal one-car accident in Dexter the day before Thanksgiving.
DEXTER, MI – The Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office has identified the victim of a fatal one-car accident in Dexter that occurred the day before Thanksgiving.
Deputies said Ashley C. Bota, 18, was traveling northbound on Dexter-Pinckney Road around 5:30 a.m. Wednesday, Nov. 22 when her red Subaru veered off the roadway and struck a tree south of Alice Hill.
Bota was pronounced dead on scene; she was the only occupant of the vehicle.

According to Director Derrick Jackson with the Washtenaw County Sheriff’s Office, Bota was wearing a seatbelt during the crash which left the vehicle with « pretty significant damage, » he said.
Jackson told The Ann Arbor News that a toxicology report has been requested through the medical examiner’s office.
A memorial service for Bota is planned for 2 p.m. Friday, Dec. 1 at Liberty Road Chapel, 3767 W. Liberty Road in Ann Arbor. Her obituary has not yet been completed, according to the Nie Funeral Homes website.
A GoFundMe page has raised more than $10,000 to assist Bota’s family with funeral expenses.
More than 160 people have contributed to the GoFundMe account, some leaving comments that described Bota as a « sweet young woman » and a « beautiful being. »
Another person wrote that she only met Bota because of her employment at Dexter’s Pub and said she « had a smile that brightened one’s day. »
Dexter’s Pub also posted a tribute to Bota on the business’s Facebook page, saying she went to heaven « way too soon. »
« We know you are in a much better place, but you will be greatly missed. Our thoughts and prayers go out to Sunshine and her family during this difficult time. May her memory be eternal, » the post said.
