All 20 teams are still in the hunt for first place!
The first day of the Intel Extreme Masters Playerunkown’s Battlegrounds Invitational is in the books, and after a great day of unpredictable games, Sunday’s conclusion is setting up to be even better.
The surprises started early on Saturday when the first game of the day went to the open qualifier team, Digital Chaos. DC’s win was followed, in game two, by a win for Cloud9, with Method taking game three and TSM taking the final game of the day.
While three of the four games may have been won by big name teams, the top of the standings feature a healthy mix of invited teams and their open qualifier counterparts. But with four games still to play on the tournament’s final day, there’s still plenty of room for anyone to claim first prize.
All the day two action kicks off at 1 p.m. PT/ 4 p.m. ET. You can watch it here, via Twitch.
Day one of the invitational was non-stop chaos as the teams tested new tactics and shook out some of the nerves that come with playing on stage at Oracle Arena. While day two is likely to be just as action-packed, teams are likely to be a little more methodical in their approach to the games since they will have had all night to practice and devise new strategies.
Not only that, but the teams also have a good idea of how many points they’ll need to finish in the top eight, and earn a piece of the $200,000 prize pool. Some of the best and most popular teams — TSM, Method and Faze — sit comfortably atop the table, while others — Team Liquid, Cloud9 and Luminosity Gaming — may have to be more aggressive to secure a strong finish.
Meanwhile, some of the teams that made it to Oakland through the open qualifier, like aAa and Digital Chaos, impressed on the first day with aggressive and fun playing styles, and will look to keep that up to prove they deserve an invitation to the next tournament.
