The Dawning kicks off Dec. 19
Bungie is bringing back The Dawning, the developer’s winter holiday-themed event, for Destiny 2 next week on Dec. 19. The limited-time event will add new gear, new activities and the spirit of giving to the game.
Destiny 2 players will be treated to redecorated social spaces with new activities during The Dawning. Guardians will be able to engage in snowball fights in the Farm and the Tower, and play a little Destiny-style hockey, thanks to an oversized puck and rink. Snowball fights will carry over to Strikes, too: Bungie said that players will be able to “blast an enemy with a snowball to stun them and deal big damage.”
There will also be new seasonal gear, which can be earned from Dawning engrams. Here’s how that will work:
Engage in Crucible Mayhem or become legend in Strikes and you’ll be rewarded. Every week, complete a milestone for a Dawning engram. Get in the giving mood with new consumables that give rewards to everyone you’re playing with. If there’s a specific Dawning item that you have your heart set on, Tess will refresh her inventory each week, enabling you to use your Bright Dust reserves for your holiday shopping. On one week or another during the three-week event, you’ll find every Dawning-themed exotic (ship, ghost, sparrow, emote) and every Dawning-themed legendary armor piece on her shelves.
As Bungie mentioned, Mayhem mode will be coming back to Crucible. Mayhem, which was added to the original Destiny ’s PvP mode in 2015, cranks up the recharge rates of grenade, melee and super abilities, turning Crucible into a much more frantic, frenzied affair.
