Google looking at slower fingerprints on Pixel 2 XL after Android 8.1

People are debating where the problem is in the process from fingerpad to lights on, but the matter of the problem is with the Pixel 2 XL on Android 8.1.
The bug watch continues for Google and it never seems to let up for the Pixel 2 XL. As if all the problems with the display weren’t enough, there have been reports that the recent Android 8.1 Oreo update negatively affected the authentication performance by use of the fingerprint sensor.
Ate Jellema posted in the Pixel Phone Help forum that their device “takes a good second before screen turns on.” Indeed, Jellema references Redditors’ complaints stacking up on a few threads that try to parse the issue down to the display not lighting up as quickly as it should. Users noticed this right after the Android 8.1 update, so it’s currently the star suspect.
Google team members have since been compiling bug reports and has acknowledged the issue on its support side. Whether the issue actually gets sussed out and sorted is still yet to be known.
