NEW DELHI: Google recently rolled out Android 8.1 Oreo Developer Preview 2 to eligible devices. These included Pixel and Nexus smartphone users. Now, the search giant has started rolling out the final beta version to those developers. The beta version arrives on the newest smartphones by Google, the Pixel 2 and the Pixel 2 XL, as reported by Android Police.
Those who want to experience the final beta version can experience it as the OTA updates have already started arriving. The update on the Pixel 2 weighs 40.6MB, while on Pixel 2 XL it weighs 42.9MB.
It has also been revealed that this OTA version will bring the device back to the stable channel without flashing it to Android 8.0 Oreo first. The OTA update for other beta devices are not yet reported to have rolled out.
It is worth adding that there may not be any major changes in the final Android 8.1 Oreo beta version as compared to the previous one.
The Android 8.1 Developer Preview 2 comes with official APIs, bug fixes and optimisations along with November security patch. Pixel 2 users specifically get to test Pixel Visual Core. As Google explained recently, Pixel Visual Core has been made to expand the reach of HDR+ camera mode, handle heavy imaging applications and deliver low latency with even more power-efficient HDR+ processing.
Pixel Visual Core, the search giant’s first custom-designed co-processor, is built in to every Pixel 2 and Pixel 2 smartphones. The processor was not activated until now.
Google has also fixed the ‘wrong’ cheese burger emoji in the Android 8.1 Oreo. The emoji at first glance looked similar to other ‘Hamburger’ or ‘Cheese Burger’ emojis used by iOS and Windows Phone. However, the mistake was in the details. The emoji used in Android had the cheese slice placed at the last, something which was incorrect.
