After a long lean period, Motorola has finally launched new Moto Mods in India
After a long lean period, Motorola has finally launched new Moto Mods in India. Introduced a while back globally, the Mods in question are the JBL SoundBoost 2 speaker Mod, GamePad Mod and Moto TurboPower Pack battery Mod. All three Mods will be available on Flipkart and Motorola’s exclusive offline retail stores Moto Hubs from December 17 onward.
Moto’s Z series of phones are a new take on modular smartphones. The functionality of the Moto Z2 Play – Motorola’s current flagship in India – can be expanded via Moto Mods which just snap onto the back of the smartphone. Currently Motorola sells Mods which can transform the Z2 Play into a boombox, a camera with 10x optical zoom and even a movie projector.
The JBL SoundBoost 2 is an improved version of the SoundBoost Mod which was launched with the original Moto Z family. It has 10 hours of battery life (with fast charging support), is splash resistant thanks to a water resistant coating and features a sleeker design with a fabric covering. It is available in three colours – red, blue and black and retails for Rs 6,999.

The SoundBoost 2 also comes with an app called My JBL SoundBoost 2 that allows sound to be controlled granularly. The GamePad Mod lets you control games the old fashioned way thanks to its four action buttons, dual control sticks and D-pad. Just like the SoundBoost 2, it has its own power source (a 1,035mAh battery). It will set you back Rs 6,999.
The Moto Turbo PowerPack Mod retails for 5,999 and promises an extra day of battery life. It comes with fast charging support – Motorola promises a 50% charge in just 20 minutes. Along with the three new Moto Mods, Motorola has also announced a partnership with RentoMojo which allows customers to rent these Moto Mods for a week at a price of Rs 399. This service will be available across the top 8 metros.
Sudhin Mathur, Managing Director, Motorola Mobility India said – « We are ending the year on an exciting note and have upheld our commitment to build a better mobile future with the promise of limitless possibilities, through the new mods. The partnership with RentoMojo is basis our understanding our customers’ better and ensuring that we work relentlessly to remove barriers that deter them from adopting new innovations. This is a unique concept and we are positive that our customers will embrace it. »
