Microsoft recently pushed a security update for its near-dead mobile operating system. The fixes contained are likely aimed at protecting devices against the Meltdown and Spectre CPU vulnerabilities.
Microsoft has pushed a new cumulative update for Windows 10 Mobile that contains many of the same fixes pushed to desktop users with KB4056892 earlier in the week. The page for said update was updated yesterday with the following statement:
For Mobile users, this is being billed as build 15254.158. The notes on the update state its contains the following:
Like with the desktop update, this is likely in response to the recent revelations of the Meltdown and Spectre vulnerabilities that affect processors from Intel, ARM and AMD. While Microsoft’s mobile platform is near-dead at this point, it is heartening to see Microsoft still making the effort to protect users of a platform it has effectively euthanized in the past few months.
Users of Windows 10 Mobile can grab the update by going to the Update and Security tab in the Settings app on their devices. The update is currently being pushed to all users.
