A member of the United States military was killed and four others were wounded during a “combat engagement” in Afghanistan, the Defense Department said on Tuesday.
The attack took place in Achin, Nangarhar Province, on Monday.
Two of the wounded service members are in stable condition and being treated at a nearby medical facility while two others have returned to duty.
“We are deeply saddened by the loss of one of our own,” said Gen. John Nicholson, commander of US Forces-Afghanistan. “At this very difficult time our heartfelt sympathies go out to the families and friends of our fallen and wounded brothers.”
The Defense Department did not identify the fallen service member.
