Harvey Weinstein’s reps have come out swinging against Rose McGowan.
Harvey Weinstein ‘s reps have come out swinging against Rose McGowan, after the actress detailed his alleged sexual assault in her new memoir.
The pervy producer — who reportedly paid the “Charmed” star a $100,000 settlement after the 1997 encounter — has broadly denied forcing anyone into sex, but on Tuesday issued a lengthy statement directly accusing McGowan of lying about “consensual” sex in her book “Brave.”
“Mr. Weinstein denies Rose McGowan’s allegations of non-consensual sexual contact and it is erroneous and irresponsible to conflate claims of inappropriate behavior and consensual sexual contact later regretted, with an untrue claim of rape,” Weinstein’s attorney, Ben Brafman, said in a statement.
“This allegation, like her others of being in the CIA and equating a red carpet with being raped, are unsupported. It was Ms. McGowan, and only Ms. McGowan, who chose to demand money from Mr. Weinstein; it was Ms. McGowan who later chose to work with Mr. Weinstein professionally, and it was Ms. McGowan who later elected to personally appear with Mr. Weinstein at his charity event in Cannes.”
He added: “Ms. McGowan also approached Mr. Weinstein to finance a $30 million film she was starring in, a remake of ‘Barbarella.’”
McGowan in the book claims Weinstein lured her to his hotel room under the guise of a business meeting, then pushed her into his bathroom, stripped her clothes off and performed oral sex on her while pleasuring himself.
While sending Brafman’s statement, a public relations rep for Weinstein also demanded the The Post alter its own report on the new tome to include McGowan’s claim that she faked an orgasm — which the actress wrote was in the hopes of making him stop.
“I saw your piece omitted that Rose says she faked an orgasm while Mr. Weinstein was performing oral sex on her. Why? It’s misleading to leave out that part that she describes in detail in her book. Can you please update your story to include her full description of the encounter,” wrote Holly Baird of PR firm Sitrick And Company.
McGowan is one of dozens of women who have accused Weinstein of sexual harassment or assault — with many of the alleged incidents taking place in hotel rooms.
She says she sought the financial settlement after a female criminal attorney talked her out of pressing charges.
