Recently we saw first the photos app and then a number of other apps offer Insiders the option to get access to pre-release features of the apps for testing. In today’s blog post Microsoft made the program official and also announced a few related details.
Called the new Windows App Preview Program, it would mean Insiders would not need to be on the Skip Ahead ring to get access to the very latest versions of apps.
With the new Windows App Preview Program Insiders can opt-in to previews for the following first-wave of apps:
To opt-in to a preview for an app Insiders can go to the Settings or About page of the app and click the “Join preview” button. If the limit has been met for that app preview for the app you will get a notification on clicking the button and as more slots open up you can join the preview. Additionally, if you need to leave an app preview you can do so by also going to the Settings or About page and clicking the “Leave preview” button.
Insiders on Skip Ahead do not need to request access as they will already be getting the very latest versions of the apps.
Currently, the Windows App Preview Program is only available to Windows Insiders, but this may change in the future.
Apps offering the Preview option are rolling out in the next few days, so those interested should keep checking the app Settings/About page.
