An upcoming SpaceX satellite launch from Southern California that could create a spectacular aerial display (and more false reports of alien spacecraft) has been delayed three days.
A Falcon 9 rocket carrying a PAZ Earth observation satellite for Spain had been scheduled to lift off from Vandenberg Air Force Base in Santa Barbara County on Sunday, less than a half-hour before sunrise.
Instead, the launch required more inspections and was delayed until early Wednesday.
A previous Falcon 9 launch from Vandenberg, in clear weather on Dec. 22, led many onlookers and a few tabloid magazines to cry “UFO” as they witnessed strange trails appear in the sky. SpaceX founder and CEO Elon Musk, an occasional Twitter troll, sarcastically confirmed conspiracy theorists’ reports in a timely manner.
December’s spectacle could be seen as far away as Phoenix.
The PAZ satellite carries an instrument to make radar images of the Earth, to be used by the government and for commercial purposes.
