With the Coachella Valley Music and Arts Festival just around the corner, packing for the extravaganza has begun!
And you know what that means… it’s time to start planning your festival outfits. While music from headliners Beyoncé, Eminem and The Weeknd — and the many other artists performing — are one significant piece of the Coachella puzzle, fashion always inevitability play a huge role in festivities. Whether you are attending weekend one (April 13-15) or weekend two (April 20 – 22), it is important to know which fashion trends to look for.

Luckily, many brands release festival-wear clothing lines just for this occasion – and to make it easier to figure out what the trendiest outfits will be on the field of the Empire Polo Club in Indio. You don’t want to be showing up with last year’s look!
After scouring through several festival clothing lines, here are 6 trends we noticed. Warning: Snark ahead.
No, these aren’t the same kind of fanny packs that are usually the sure sign of a dad at Disneyland — well, in reality they are, but they are way more fashionable. Whether you want a metallic mermaid fanny pack ( yes, it’s a thing) or a stylish belt purse – here is a fun and fashionable way to carry all your important belongings. Actually, this is probably the most practical of all the fashion trends — you don’t want to be lugging around a big purse or backpack in that desert heat.
Step aside crop tops, there is a new top in town (you will definitely see crop tops still, so don’t get too disappointed). Wearing a bathing suit in public as an actual outfit just got a whole lot easier — and more fashion forward. With the desert heat festivalgoers face it is no surprise they are looking for the most fashionable way to keep cool. Several fashion lines offer bralettes — which are exactly what they sound like — bras that you wear as a top. Whether you are looking for intricate bralettes – like this one (hello, fringe) or a shiny bralette like this one (talk about blinding in the sunshine), the options are endless. And no matter what, they’re still better than the disco décolletage trend from 2017.
This trend is a bit less practical than the rest seeing as you will be wearing a jacket or cape during the day in the desert heat, but fashion is pain, right? Whether you are in the mood for a fringe cape or sequin cape — you’re in luck, because these capes are all over the festival wear fashion lines. An even more sweat-inducing fashion item is a jacket — especially this jacket (I got heat stroke just thinking about wearing it). My advice: Do it for the “gram” then take the jacket off and stay cool.
But in all seriousness, it can get chilly at night in the desert and while the fringe won’t help you, a light jacket might.
Body suits, Jumpsuits and rompers have been fashion staples at Coachella for years now — and for good reason. They are fashionable and can keep you cool in the desert heat. Much like bralettes, body suits let you wear a bathing suit in public while still being able to call it fashion. Jumpsuits and rompers offer a flowy, cool option in the if you want to wear a bit more clothing yet not sweat a ton of bullets. Forever 21, Topshop and Nasty Gal have multiple body suits, rompers and jumpsuits available in their festival collections.
Want the flowy pants of a jumpsuit without the top included? Well, there is a way to do that. Several festival fashion lines are overflowing with flowy pants. You can find them in solid colors or if you are bold and looking for some colorful striped pants — they’re all on-trend. This is also a chance to mix and match with trends by pairing up these pants with a bralette.
With plenty of pockets and short length to keep you cool — you will be a practical fashionista. Overalls may be so 1989, but they are coming back for festival wear– much like those fanny packs. Oh, and there are plenty of styles to choose from: classic white, camo-style, etc.
We’ll be out at the festival again this year, sharing all of the Coachella vibes and maybe we’ll even find you on the field.
