HTC started to follow the trend of 18:9 taller display smartphones from the HTC U11+. However, unlike most smartphone makers, the company hasn’t launched any mid-tier smartphone with an 18:9 display.
The HTC Desire 12 Plus could be the first affordable HTC smartphone with 18:9 aspect ratio display. In fact, there is a standard HTC Desire 12, which has a smaller screen with similar specifications. Similarly, these mobiles are also expected to follow a new design trend.
HTC Desire 12 has a 5.5-inch 1440 x 720px LCD display. Under the hood, the phone is powered by MediaTek Quad-core chipset with 3GB RAM and 32GB storage. The HTC Desire 12 is equipped with a 12 MP primary camera and a 5 MP front-facing camera.
Finally, the device packs in a non-user replaceable 2730 mAh Li-ion battery. Similarly, the smartphone will not support fast charging due to the chipset incapabilities.
The HTC Desire 12 Plus inherits the same 1440 x 720px LCD display. However, now the display measures 5.99 inch with 268 ppi. The Desire 12 Plus is powered by a much powerful Qualcomm Snapdragon 450 Octa-core chipset based on 14 nm FinFET architecture. The smartphones have 3GB RAM and 32GB storage.
The Desire 12 Plus has a similar 12MP primary camera and a slightly upgraded 8MP front-facing camera. Even the battery gets a slight upgrade, which now has 2965 mAh Li-ion battery with Qualcomm Quick charge 3.0 support.
If launched in India, the HTC Desire 12 and the Desire 12 Plus will share the market with devices like the Redmi Note 5, Honor 7x, and the Honor 9 Lite. However, the company has to launch these smartphones at a very competitive pricing to make a mark in the markets like India and China.
HTC might launch the Desire 12 series in the Spring of 2018. However, as of now, there is no information on the pricing or the availability of the smartphone.
