Police: Sanford officers shot,killed man who fired at them

Police shot and killed a man late Tuesday night in Sanford after the man shot at three officers, authorities said.
Sanford, N. C. — Police shot and killed a man late Tuesday night in Sanford after the man shot at three officers, authorities said.
Officers responded just before 10:30 p.m. to a disturbance at a home on Goldsboro Avenue. When they got there, they found Juan Carlos Romero, 41, who had a handgun.
Police said Romero shot at the three officers who responded, and the officers shot back, killing Romero.

« It was later determined that Juan Carlos Romero shot a 19-year-old » female at the residence, police said in a news release. The woman was taken to the hospital and was listed Wednesday in stable condition.
The names of the officers involved were not released.
The State Bureau of Investigation was called in to handle the investigation into the shooting, which is standard procedure.
