A motorist died Sunday after driving a car down an embankment on Interstate 680 in Dublin — the second traffic fatality within hours, authorities said.
The incident was reported just after 11 a.m. near the Stoneridge Drive off-ramp, according to the California Highway Patrol. The vehicle tumbled down an embankment and landed on its roof in the bushes, the CHP said.
Tow companies were on scene to remove the vehicle, and the off-ramp on the northbound side of the freeway was shut down.
The driver was not identified. Authorities are investigating the cause of the crash.
Also Sunday, a motorist died after a single-vehicle crash on I-680 near the Olympic Boulevard exit in Walnut Creek, the CHP said.
The crash was reported just after 4 a.m. All lanes of the freeway were shut down for about two hours while the coroner and investigators cleared the scene.
The victim was not identified. There were no immediate details on what caused the crash.
