A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after being shot in the head at a Citgo on Livernois and Puritan, police say.
A 3-year-old girl is in critical condition after she was shot in the head at a Citgo gas station on Detroit’s west side, police said.
At about 2 p.m., a verbal altercation between two men in the gas station, at Livernois and Puritan, led to a physical fight outside. One of the men then fired several shots at the other, who took cover behind a car — inside of which there was a woman and the child.
The shooter continued firing, and one of the bullets struck the girl, who was driven by police to a hospital. Police arrested the suspect shortly after the incident.
Assistant Chief Arnold Williams said the violent crime is unacceptable.
« We have a lot of individuals who out here who have problems with conflict resolution, » Williams said. « They are hurting innocent bystanders. »
He said Detroit Police Department is working hard to keep people safe.
« Great job by all officers involved (in this case), » Williams said.
