Turrentine was hiding behind a church building before firing a gun at the deputy’s patrol car, which was struck several times. Authorities said the deputy returned fire but neither he nor the suspect was struck. No injuries were reported during the incident.

Several other law enforcement officers were called to the scene, including the Wayne County SWAT team, but there were unable to find the other three suspects. One of them was described as a woman wearing a hot pink shirt and hoodie.
