Sony reveals its May 2018 lineup of free games for PlayStation Plus subscribers, with the headlining titles being Beyond: Two Souls and Rayman Legends for PS4.
Today marks the last Wednesday of April and we all know what that means for PlayStation users – it’s time to find out what the new PlayStation Plus lineup of free games is for next month. Coming off of titles like Mad Max and Trackmania Turbo on PS4 for April, let’s see what Sony has planned for May.
As always, the announcement was made on the PlayStation Blog. The headlining PS4 games are Beyond: Two Souls and Rayman Legends. PlayStation 3 users can look forward to Risen 3: Titan Lords and Eat Them! Last, but not least, those who own a Vita can pick up King Oddball, which is crossbuy compatible for PS3 and PS4, as well as Furmins.
Beyond: Two Souls is an action/thriller game that was made by the same studio responsible for upcoming PS4 exclusive Detroit: Become Human, which saw a demo release this week on PSN. As with Quantic Dream’s other titles, there is a heavy emphasis on story with Beyond: Two Souls. The game is made to feel more cinematic thanks to the help of Ellen Page and Willem Dafoe, who both play major roles in the game, with Page’s character being the main protagonist.
Rayman Legends is a throwback to classic 2D action platformers of the past. It was a direct sequel to Rayman Origins, which released last console generation. On top of the solid platforming action, the games were also known for their inclusion of 4 player co-op, meaning this is one you’ll be able play with friends and family.
For the PS3 titles, Risen 3: Titan Lords is an action RPG that sees players take the role of a resurrected pirate who is destined to be “The Nameless Hero.” The hero must embark on a quest to defeat the evil Shadow Lord, who is trying to spread his dark reign. Eat Them!, on the other hand is a classic arcade style smash-em up in the vein of Rampage. It is actually touted as being a spiritual successor to that arcade classic.
On the Vita, King Oddball is a physics based puzzler along the lines of Angry Birds. Players take control of the titular character, who hurls boulders with his tongue and tries to smash as much as he can on his path to world domination. Furmins is another puzzler, which has some physics based elements, too. In it, players try to create a safe path for the furmins to make it to the end of the level, much like the old Lemmings games. This can be done by using a variety of gadgets.
Remember, PS3 and Vita owners will want to make sure to add the PlayStation Plus games for those systems to their library, as Sony did announce those platforms will no longer be receiving free games starting Februray of 2019. April’s free titles will be available to download until next Tuesday, May 1.
