Hong Kong police defuse wartime bomb at Wan Chai site after 20-hour operation

The American-made AN-M65 bomb was the third such device unearthed in the same area this year
Specialists removed the bomb casing in the morning and succeeded in disarming the weapon by noon at the construction site of the Sha Tin-Central rail link.
The defused bomb was lifted from a pit by a crane, as more than 30 Explosive Ordnance Disposal Bureau officers and construction workers stood watch.
The American-made AN-M65 bomb, measuring 145cm in length and with a diameter of about 45cm, was reported by construction workers at about 4.30pm on Thursday.
Roads that were closed off have been gradually reopened. Police are expected to offer more details soon.
The road and building closures since Thursday have not only affected businesses in the area but also tourists.
On Friday morning, a woman, surnamed Zhang, and her family from mainland China were waiting anxiously to enter a building in the affected zone to pick up documents from a travel agency.
