Another Palestinian protester died from wounds inflicted by Israeli troops during demonstrations in the Gaza Strip on Monday.
The death brings to 62 the total number of people killed by Israeli gunfire during last week’s protests, the Gaza Ministry of Health said Saturday. The demonstrations came as the U. S. moved its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem.
Hamas recently claimed most of the protesters who were killed were its supporters. An Israeli military spokesman said the admission confirmed that Hamas — which the US has designated a terrorist group — was behind the demonstrations.
The Islamist movement said more than 100 Palestinians have been killed by Israeli gunfire on the border since March 30, when protests began.
Israel says it has done everything it can to limit civilian casualties and used lived ammunition only as a last resort.
