The US government has hit Chinese smartphone giant ZTE with a $1bn (£750m) fine as part of a deal to lift an export ban against the company.
T he US government has hit Chinese smartphone giant ZTE with a $1bn (£750m) fine as part of a deal to lift an export ban against the company.
ZTE had been accused by US officials of failing to discipline employees and misleading regulators after the company was found breaking trade embargoes against Iran and North Korea.
On top of the fine, ZTE will place $400m in an escrow account for future violations, while the US Commerce Department will embed a compliance team within the company.
