« You’re not entitled to politeness when your approach is rude, » says actor
John Boyega is over “Star Wars” haters, taking to Twitter to declare that they are “not entitled to politeness when your approach is rude.”
“If you don’t like Star Wars or the characters understand that there are decisions makers and harassing the actors/ actresses will do nothing,” tweeted Boyega on Tuesday. “You’re not entitled to politeness when your approach is rude. Even if you paid for a ticket!”
He added, “To the majority of Star Wars fans thank you for supporting and putting yourselves in our shoes. You understand that there is a process so much appreciated!”

Boyega’s tweet is an apparent response to “The Last Jedi” star Kelly Marie Tran quitting Instagram earlier this month. While she didn’t share the reason for doing so, “Star Wars” fans pointed to months of racist trolling as the reason for her exit.
Tran — who played Rose Tico, a Resistance mechanic, in the latest “The Last Jedi” — has dealt with online harassment before. Her character’s page on Wookieepedia, a “Star Wars” reference site, was altered by racist trolls last year, changing her name to “Ching Chong Wing Tong,” and calling her “stupid, autistic and retarded.”

“The Last Jedi” director Rian Johnson also weighed in on the attacks, calling the suggestion that the activity was merely “showing dislike” for “The Last Jedi” “disingenuous bulls—.” Johnson railed against fans that take their dislike of a movie so far as to try to ruin the lives of the people in it.
The vocal detractors of “The Last Jedi” have been mad about the movie since it came out, with some trying to push a #BoycottStarWars movement. Others created petitions to have the film removed from the “Star Wars” canon.
Those kinds of bigoted attacks also surrounded “The Force Awakens,” as people lobbed sexist comments at Daisy Ridley, who plays Rey, and racist comments at Boyega, who plays Finn.
