Last month, Motorola debuted its Moto G6 family of budget Android smartphones, consisting of the Moto G6, Moto G6 Plus, and Moto G6 Play. The Lenovo-owned company is holding a media event in India today, where it will be launching the Moto G6 and G6 Play smartphones in the country. While the Moto G6 Play has been teased recently by both Flipkart and Motorola, the Moto G6 has only been teased by Motorola India.
Motorola has partnered directly with Twitter for a livestream experience of its Moto G6 and Moto G6 Play launch in the country. As part of the live streaming experience, Motorola fans in India as well as other parts of the world will be able to view the launch event live on live.twitter.com/motorolag6. The product unveiling will begin 11:45 onwards.
While the official pricing will only be revealed once the launch event concludes, we expect the Moto G6 Play to priced somewhere around the Rs.10,000 to Rs.13,000 mark in India. What is more or less confirmed, however, is that the Moto G6 Play will actually be sold exclusively via Flipkart in India.
In international markets, the Moto G6 Play is priced at $199, which converts to roughly Rs.13,500. The smartphone comes in four colors – Sterling Blue, Indigo Blue, Fine Gold, and Silver. In India, however, the Moto G6 Play will reportedly be available only in Indigo Blue and Fine Gold colors.
Announced last month along with the Moto G6 and Moto G6 Plus, the Moto G6 Play features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with 720 x 1440 HD+ resolution and 18:9 aspect ratio. Protecting the display is a layer of Corning Gorilla Glass, although Motorola hasn’t specified which exact version it is using. Under the hood, Moto G6 Play runs on an octa-core Snapdragon 430 chipset clocked at 1.4 GHz with an Adreno 505 GPU. In the memory department, Moto G6 Play comes in two configurations – 2GB RAM + 16GB storage and 3GB RAM + 32GB storage.
In the camera department, Moto G6 Play comes equipped with a 13MP primary camera at the back with phase-detection autofocus and an f/2.0 aperture lens. On the front of the smartphone is an 8-megapixel snapper with an LED flash. When it comes to video, the Moto G6 Play is capable of shooting videos at up to 1080p Full HD resolution, just like most other budget Android smartphones on the market currently. Connectivity-wise, the Moto G6 Play comes with Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, FM radio, and 4G VoLTE. For fast access, the smartphone features a fingerprint sensor placed at the rear. One of the biggest strengths of the Moto G6 Play is undoubtedly the large 4000mAh capacity battery inside. Motorola has added fast charging support as well, which means you will not only be able to enjoy stellar battery life but expect it to charge pretty quickly. Another impressive feature of the Moto G6 Play is splash resistance. While you will not be able to take it to the pool, the splash resistance could come in handy in certain situations. In terms of physical size, the Moto G6 Play measures 154.4 x 72.9 x 9mm and weighs in at 175 grams. On the software front, the Moto G6 Play runs on Android 8.0 Oreo operating system out of the box.
The Moto G6 features a 5.7-inch IPS LCD display with 1080 x 2160 Full HD+ resolution and an 18:9 aspect ratio. It runs on an octa-core Snapdragon 450 chipset clocked at 1.8 GHz with an Adreno 506 GPU. The octa-core processor is coupled with either 3GB or 4GB of RAM. While the 3GB RAM variant includes 32GB of onboard storage, the 4GB RAM variant includes 64GB of onboard storage. For further expansion, the smartphone includes a microSD card slot.
At the rear is a 12MP + 5MP dual-camera setup with the primary sensor coupled with an f/1.8 aperture lens. Unlike the Moto G6 Plus, the Moto G6 does not support 4K video recording. On the front of the handset is an 8MP snapper for selfies, with an f/2.2 aperture and an LED flash. Connectivity features include Wi-Fi 802.11 a/b/g/n dual-band, Bluetooth 4.2 Low Energy, GPS with A-GPS, GLONASS, BeiDou, USB Type-C, and 4G VoLTE. The Moto G6 also comes with splash resistance and a front-mounted fingerprint sensor. Keeping the lights on is a 3000mAh capacity battery with fast charging support. In terms of software, the smartphone will be running Android 8.0 Oreo OS out of the box.
The Moto G6 is expected to be priced around the Rs.15,000 mark in India. Since Flipkart hasn’t officially teased the Moto G6, it appears the Moto G6 will not be exclusive to Flipkart. More details with regards to the smartphone’s availability will only be available later in the day.
