WASHINGTON — Porn star Stormy Daniels will sit down with federal prosecutors in Manhattan Monday, sources told The Post.
Daniels will discuss the $130,000 hush money payment made by President Trump’s attorney Michael Cohen to her in the waning days of the 2016 presidential election, along with other issues stemming from the payment, in order to prepare for a grand jury appearance, a source said.
The Monday meeting was first reported by the Washington Post, which said that Daniels and her attorney Michael Avenatti have provided documents about the payment to prosecutors in response to a subpoena.
The payment was made to keep Daniels, whose real name is Stephanie Clifford, quiet about a decade-old sexual liaison with Trump, which occurred while he was married to first lady Melania Trump.
The Wall Street Journal broke the story about the payment’s existence in January.
The White House has denied that Trump had a sexual encounter with Daniels, though the president has more recently said he was aware Cohen was making the payment at the time. Cohen has said he made the payment through a Delaware-based LLC.
In April, the FBI raided Cohen’s Rockefeller Center office and his Park Avenue hotel room seizing business records, including documents related to the Daniels’ payment.
Prosecutors from the U. S. attorney’s office for the Southern District of New York obtained a search warrant after receiving a referral from Special Counsel Robert Mueller’s team, the group handling the Russia probe.
Cohen is being investigated for potential campaign finance law violations for making the payment, as well as bank and wire fraud.
“I haven’t spoken to Michael in a long time,” the president told reporters earlier this month outside the White House. “No, he’s not my lawyer anymore, but I always like Michael. And he’s a good person.”
