For most men, grooming is a part of their daily routine, but it’s rarely something they want to spend an abundance of time on. It’s a pure necessity. No matter what type of facial hair or skin men have, we all desire smooth shaves, precise trims, and clean and refreshed skin without having to go to a barbershop or salon.
In order to achieve a well-groomed look at home, guys usually have to buy a variety of products like shavers, trimmers, and facial brushes. Now, instead of spending a lot more than you’d like only for them to clutter your bathroom counterspace, there’s a high-tech, all-in-one device that can handle it all: The Philips Norelco 9700 Electric Shaver.
As Philips’ most advanced ever, the Philips Norelco 9700 uses ContourDectect technology and V-Track Precision Blades to capture and cut each hair while the three-head shaver contours to your face. By achieving a clean cut on each individual hair, your face is shaven smoothly without any irritation like other shavers that haphazardly cut anything (your skin) in their path.
On top of being a high-level shaver, The Philips Norelco 9700 is also a precise trimmer for guys who like to shape their sideburns, mustache, or beard. While trimmers on other electric shavers seem like an afterthought just slapped onto the side of the device, the 9700 uses comes with the SmartClick precision trimmer. The benefit here is maximum control when trimming and the ability to replace it once the blade wears out.
Although it’s not included, you can also buy the SmartClick Clean Brush attachment. For $35, it will transform your 9700 into an all-in-one grooming tool and with the 9700’s motor powering it, it’s definitely more powerful than a cheap cleaning brush that constantly runs through AA batteries.
In the past, I tested the brand’s affordable and functional OneBlade shaver and loved it. When Philips offered to send over the 9700 for testing, I was excited to experience the other end of the brand’s shaving spectrum. After just a few uses, I can confidently say that the Philips Norelco 9700 gives me the closest shave I’ve ever experienced.
Going from the simplified OneBlade to the sophisticated 9700 is like night and day, which is expected given the big difference in technology, and subsequently, price. I felt a lot more comfortable shaving with it because of the contoured precision of the shaver head. In comparison to other premium, more comparable shavers I’ve used from other brands, the Philips Norelco 9700 still proved to be better.
The main reason I like the 9700 is its overall design. The large, easy-to-read digital display shows the battery level, cleaning indicator, battery level indicator, replacement head indicator, and travel lock indicator. The ergonomic grip has a great in-hand feel and makes the shaver and its attachments comfortable to use. Nothing on the shaver feels like an afterthought or a compromise in design. It’s completely waterproof, so its good for wet shaves, rinsing under water, or using in the shower.
Having the trimmer attachment mounted to the top of the device — not the side like other shavers — makes seeing what you’re doing a lot easier. For that reason alone, this is a trimmer I feel confident with and actually want to use.
I also really like the SmartClean base because it cleans, charges, and lubricates your shaver in a compact design that doesn’t take up much space on your bathroom countertop. When you’re on the go, the 9700 can be stored in the travel case, although I do wish there was room to store attachments in the case as well.
Overall, the Philips Norelco 9700 is the highest quality shaver I’ve used. The advanced contouring and shaving technologies eliminate any type of user error one might experience while shaving. You’d have to really try hard to get a bad shave out of the 9700, and even then it would still come out great.
As a shaver, trimmer, and facial cleansing brush, the Philips Norelco 9700 is well worth is $350 MSRP, but you can save $60 by purchasing it on Amazon now. After trying the $35 Philips Norelco OneBlade and then the Philips Norelco 9700, I can say that the brand does an excellent job and creating grooming tools at all price points.
If you’re looking for a super premium grooming experience for that goes beyond a smooth shave for yourself or as a Father’s Day gift, the Philips Norelco 9700 is an excellent choice.
