The trade carousel has officially stopped and all of the pieces are in place for the last two months of baseball season. We didn’t get a Bryce Harper trade — Nationals GM Mike Rizzo shot down that possibility Tuesday morning — but there was no shortage of deals as the deadline drew near. The biggest story of the day was Chris Archer going to the Pirates, and the second may have been Matt Harvey going nowhere. Here are the other trades that went down Tuesday:
Orioles trade Jonathan Schoop to Brewers for Jonathan Villar, Luis Ortiz and Jean Carmona: Milwaukee gets help at second base, as Villar has been sidelined. Baltimore gets ever closer to losing a record number of games, getting back more prospects — a right-handed pitcher and a shortstop.
Twins trade Brian Dozier to Dodgers for Logan Forsythe, Luke Raley and Devin Smeltzer: The Dodgers make an upgrade at second base, swapping Forsythe — whose OPS+ is a pitiful 53 — for Dozier, a former All-Star, albeit in the midst of a down year. Minnesota also gets two prospects back.
Marlins trade Cameron Maybin to Mariners for Bryson Brigman and international bonus pool money: Seattle upgrades in center field, giving up a Single-A shortstop, and Maybin gets to leave the pitiful Marlins.
Rays trade Wilson Ramos to Phillies for PTBNL or cash: Philly picks up an All-Star catcher in Ramos, who will be off the DL soon and holds an .834 OPS on the year. For a player to be named later, it seems likely they won’t pay a huge price for Ramos, whose deal expires after the season.
Blue Jays trade Aaron Loup to Phillies for Jacob Waguespack: Philadelphia adds a lefty specialist for a Double-A starter with a 3.99 ERA. Not much to see here.
Nationals trade Brandon Kintzler to Cubs for Jhon Romero: Chicago’s bullpen gets better with Kintzler, who has a 3.59 ERA this season, and the Nationals get back a Single-A relief pitcher in Romero.
Orioles trade Kevin Gausman and Darren O’Day to Braves for Brett Cumberland, Evan Phillips, Bruce Zimmerman, Jean Carlos Encarnacion and international signing slots: Baltimore trades one of its better pitchers — yes, things can get worse there — as the Braves add a capable starter down the stretch and O’Day, who is out for the year with a hamstring injury. Baltimore, in the midst of a full-scale rebuild, gets prospects back.
Rangers trade Jake Diekman to Diamondbacks for Wei-Chieh Huang: Arizona gets a lefty reliever in Diekman, who has been a stalwart presence for Texas this season, and all it gives up is a 24-year-old Single-A reliever.
Blue Jays trade John Axford to Dodgers for Corey Copping: Los Angeles bolsters its seventh- and eighth-inning corps, making getting to Kenley Jansen in the ninth just a little bit easier. Toronto gets back a minor league reliever who could be in the bigs sooner rather than later.
