Georgia Democratic Rep. John Lewis was hospitalized after he got sick on a plane Saturday.
Although details of the sickness have not been made public, Brenda Jones, a spokesperson for Lewis, confirmed that he had been taken to the hospital for “routine observation,” ABC News reported. Jones said the Georgia congressman would have to spend the night at the hospital and is expected to be released Sunday.
“There is no cause for alarm. He will be fine. He’s resting comfortably and expects to be released tomorrow,” Jones said in the statement.
Lewis has served as the congressman of Georgia’s 5th Congressional District since 1986. Lewis has been a strong opponent to President Donald Trump, even boycotting his State of The Union address in January.
