The mayor of Sheffield, England, announced that he was “banning” President Trump from his city ahead of Trump’s visit to the United Kingdom.
Sheffield’s Lord Mayor Magid put on a sombrero while making the announcement at a city council meeting, BBC reported Wednesday.
The Green Party councillor on Twitter called Trump a “wasteman” — a British slang word for someone with no merit.
Magid even wore a matching T-shirt with the phrase.
He also declared July 13 to be “Mexico Solidarity Day,” the same day when Trump is scheduled to arrive in the United Kingdom for his working visit with Prime Minister Theresa May and Queen Elizabeth II.
BBC noted that Magid does not actually have the power to ban anyone from the city without approval from the council.
Magid listed five reasons why Trump is a “wasteman,” including pulling the U. S. out of the Paris Climate Agreement, his travel ban targeting majority-Muslim countries and his defense of white supremacists who marched in Charlottesville, Va., last year.
Magid was born in an Ethiopian refugee camp and immigrated to Sheffield when he was 5 years old, BBC reported. At 28 years old, Magid is the youngest mayor to be elected in the city.
The mayor also criticized Trump’s zero tolerance immigration policy that has caused the “imprisonment of children at borders.”
He also called on his supporters to stage protests against Trump and to donate to organizations combating his policies.
Thousands of people are expected to protest Trump’s visit to the U. K.
A 20-foot-tall inflatable Trump baby is expected to fly over British Parliament.
