While promoting his new Uncharted short film, Nathan Fillion confirms that he does not provide the voice for Cayde-6 in Destiny 2’s Forsaken expansion.
When Destiny 2’s first gameplay for the Forsaken expansion appeared many fans noticed something was off about the voice of Cayde-6. Now, thanks to confirmation from original Cayde voice actor Nathan Fillion, it appears they were right.
While out promoting his new Uncharted short film, Fillion confirmed that he did not provide the voice for Cayde-6 in the Destiny 2: Forsaken trailer. Moreover, Fillion did not return to provide any voice lines for Cayde-6 in the expansion.
After hands-on sessions at E3 2018, many had a sneaking suspicion that Fillion wasn’t returning. The voice in the demo we played didn’t sound like usual Cayde-6, but rather a sound-alike. Now it all makes sense.
This may come as surprise to fans but it makes sense given Cayde-6 meets his demise at the beginning of Forsaken’s story campaign. Presumably, Fillion is one of Destiny 2’s most expensive voice actors, so it’s possible having him come in to do a few lines did not make fiscal sense for Bungie. It is a shame, though, that Fillion didn’t get to breathe life into the character one last time before Prince Uldren ripped that life away from him.
For those that may be worried that Cayde-6 is simply mute during the Destiny 2: Forsaken campaign, we can confirm that the character does have dialogue. However, it is Nolan North who provides the Hunter Vanguard’s voice. Once again this decision likely came down to finances, with Nolan North already serving as the voice of Ghost.
No doubt it’s a shame that Nathan Fillion’s involvement in Destiny 2 played out this way. Even if Cayde-6 has a small role in Forsaken it would have been nice for him to give the character a proper send-off, if only by way of a few lines of dialogue.
However, when asked if he truly believes this is the end for Cayde-6, Fillion did say that he thinks that the character is not truly dead. Bungie, on the other hand, has made it very clear that Cayde-6 is dead.
But it’s not all bad news for Nathan Fillion and the world of video games, as the actor just released an Uncharted short film featuring him playing Nathan Drake. Perhaps this will reinvigorate the campaign to have the film and TV actor don the half tuck in a feature film.
Destiny 2: Forsaken releases September 4,2018 for PC, PS4, and Xbox One.
